This Year's Model Updates:

The value-priced Work Truck package is now available on both regular and extended cabs. Base models pick up cruise control, a sound system, chrome rear bumper and chrome wheels. An automatic transmission is now standard on LS models, and the V6 is no longer an option in this trim. Other updates include new polished aluminum wheels and 265/70R16 tires with either black sidewalls or raised white lettering. The Quadrasteer option no longer requires the buyer to order trailering equipment. There's also a new tonneau cover, and inside, you'll find underseat storage. Finally, Chevrolet has deleted the Silverado's passenger-side outside door lock.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended-cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, questionable build quality.

Ive been a gm buyer for quite a while, everything from a 70 chevelle ss to corvettes to a denali. I am very happy with my new "SS" I have added a cold air intake reprogramed the computer added headers and exhaust. with these mods it dynos at 405hp and 440torque. Im thinking of adding a throttle body next and then working on the suspension a little.

This truck rides so smooth! Hardly any road noise. Easy to handle. Accelerates nicely! (must watch speed!) Headlight highbeams--excellent! Window cranks a little hard however, hopefully after some use, it will get easier to crank. Doors a little hard to shut, must use some power to close them. We just bought the truck brand new recently, so, Im sure it just needs broke in a bit!

5.3 litre runs with anything on the highway, and on open road have gotten 20 mpg Im not a tire smoker, but at 35mph...hang on! There is no other p/u that cruises as effortlessly or efficiently at highway speeds as this with the 3.42 gears.

As a life long GM owner, I just bought another for work. The 4.8 runs smooth and gives 20 per gallon on the highway. Ive got a 97 S-10 that doesnt do this good on gas? The ride is excellent for a truck. The silver paint is great if you dont like washing your vehicle all the time. I like this truck so well Im selling my S-10 and going full size for my own personal truck. I appreciate the standard features such as cruise control, CD player and tilt wheel. Chevy costs more than Dodge but you get what you pay for.

Purchased in Feb of 2004 and used for service vehicle until retirement. Had truck recalled for bad instrument panel but our fantastic dealer took care of it. Took it on vacation to CO, WY, and SD. Street driving gets 18MPG and interstate at 75 - 80 MPH gets 22 to 23 MPG. My 9th new GM product since 1968. I drive them 135,000 to 180,000 and have never had to replace brakes. Luv my Silverado.

  • Well... - 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Im a little disapointed for the money I spent. The sticker was 33K+. For that much cash it should include a walnut dash, power seats, a decent sounding XM/multi-CD radio, etc...I find the base seats to be miserable on any trips over an hour. NO MANUAL LUMBAR ADJUSTMENT! Hell, even Kia has adjustable lumbar in their cheapest models.
